Motorola may be preparing a book-style foldable that puts tablet usability ahead of the tall, narrow proportions familiar from earlier Fold-class phones. Sketches published by Android Headlines show an unannounced device with a wider “passport” format: a shorter phone when closed and a broader small-tablet display when opened.

That shape could make a meaningful difference for portable computing. Rather than opening into an almost square panel from a long, remote-control-like handset, a wide foldable can provide a display better suited to reading, split-screen apps, video, and other tablet-style tasks while keeping the closed device more compact in height.

A wider direction for book-style foldables

The Motorola sketches place it among a growing group of wide foldable designs. Huawei has introduced the Pura X Max, while Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 is described as shorter and wider with a 4:3 inner display. Xiaomi’s 18 Fold also uses the format. Apple, Honor, and OPPO have likewise been linked to wider book-style foldables, though details on those products remain unconfirmed or incomplete.

For Motorola, the shift would be more consequential than a refresh to an existing finish or accessory lineup. It would signal a new approach to the company’s large-screen foldable category, with the opened screen intended to feel closer to a compact tablet.

A rear camera bar may leave room for magnetic accessories

The drawings also show a wide horizontal camera bar along the upper rear panel. Three cutouts are visible, but only two can be identified as cameras from the sketches; the smaller opening could instead house the flash or another sensor. A bar positioned at the top could also help reduce wobble when the phone is resting on a desk.

More speculatively, moving the camera hardware upward leaves the center of the back unobstructed—the same area needed for a large magnetic charging ring. The sketches do not confirm integrated magnets, Qi2 support, or wireless charging specifications, so it is too early to treat that layout as evidence of a magnetic accessory system.

Magnets themselves do not raise charging speed, but they can align charging coils for supported Qi2 implementations.

Other wording associated with the device includes an “easy-open profile,” 3D glass, and a “creaseless display.” The first phrase suggests edges designed to make the phone easier to unfold. The crease claim should be treated cautiously until hardware is available: foldable panels can look nearly seamless in promotional material while remaining visible from certain angles or under direct light.

Android Headlines reports that Motorola’s device could arrive in the coming months, but there is no confirmed product name, launch timing, U.S. availability, price, display size, processor, or camera specification. If the sketches prove accurate, the strongest appeal will be for buyers who want a foldable that behaves more like a small tablet when open without carrying an unusually tall phone when it is closed.
