With the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 out this week, we’re left wondering what happened to the rumored Surface Mini tablet. Apparently sources are saying it’s still on track, but only for a release in Spring 2014.

Microsoft-Surface-Mini

There’s been a lot of speculation about this device, ever since the first 8 inch Windows 8 slate was launched. We still have no idea if the diagonal of the Surface Mini will be 7 or 8 inches. We’ve heard it will be an ARM-based tablet and some even go as far as saying it will be a “Xbox Surface” slate, although that dream died a long time ago.

As far as the OS goes, we still have no idea what to expect. ZDNet’s sources are claiming that the Surface Mini is coming in Spring 2014 and the idea is to preload it with the Windows 8.1 update, so that’s the cause of the delay. The Spring 2014 time frame aligns with the Windows Phone Blue launch and the GDR for Windows 8.1, so it’s all perfect.

The only bad thing that can happen with this product is have a huge price that will make the iPad Mini 2 feel cheaper…
