LG’s efforts in the tablet biz have been mediocre at best, with the LG Optimus Pad last year and a slightly upgraded version shown at MWC this year. I can’t understand why a company that actually makes decent phone and smartphones can’t come up with a winning solution in the tablet area…

And now it appears they’re throwing the towel in this field and putting tablet development on hold, according to a recent report from Bloomberg. They quote LG’s announcement that they will put the tablet development on hold, in order to focus on smartphones. They shouldn’t worry that much though, since aside from ASUS and Samsung no other big Google partner is trying that hard either. Motorola had those failed Xooms, HTC only had the Flyer and is also on hold, while Sony’s Tablet P and S could easily be forgotten.

Some speculated that LG wants to rethink its options, after seeing the potential of Windows 8 through the latest announcement of the Surface Windows 8 tablet. An LG spokesperson was quoted as saying that LG doesn’t see Microsoft Surface as competing with any of their products. So, I guess the LG Optimus Pad LTE is the last tablet you’ll get out of the South Korean company…
