Jolla Developer Tablets have started shipping to the devs, as the Sailfish OS ecosystem expands and needs more apps. Pre production slates are reaching the members of the Developer Device Loan Program.

The idea is to both make apps and tune some of the software to the liking of the customers. Jolla also wants to launch an SDK with new tablet-related functionality. Sailfish has been designed with smartphones in mind, so a few tweaks are required. The Jolla Tablet comes with a 7.85 inch 2048 x 1536 pixel display, with an IPS panel, as well as an Intel Atom quad core processor, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage.

It’s expected to ship to customers later in the year after a very successful crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. The shipping to developers also allows Jolla to smoothen the delivery process to future customers. Developers gain access to the latest beta of Sailfish OS and once the SDK is ready, Jolla will publish the needed resources to SailfishOS.org.
