Back in June the International Trade Commission imposed a ban on import, sale and distribution of some AT&T compatible iDevices. Those included the iPhone 3G, 3GS, iPad 3G and iPad 2 3G models and the ban was applied after a win in court by Samsung. Now president Obama is looking to reverse it.

The Obama administration has vetoed the whole thing and in a letter issued to Irving A. Williamson, Chairman of the US International Trade Commission, the decision was defined as having an effect on competitive conditions in the US economy. There will also be an effect on US consumers. The patent that Samsung won was related to encoding mobile communications and those devices infringed it

Samsung could get monetary compensation, but the ban is basically lifted. Samsung responded to the president’s veto by saying that they’re disappointed with the US Trade Representative, that ignores ITC’s decision. I sense a bit of nationalism here, as the government is protecting its own company…
