I got a brief hands-on with the Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, and while it wasn’t enough time for a full review, it was definitely enough to understand what Samsung is trying to do with its first triple-foldable phone. This is not just a bigger Fold — it’s a fundamentally different device, both in how it opens and how you’re expected to use it.
The Z Trifold starts as a relatively familiar 6.5-inch smartphone. Open it once, then open it again, and you end up with a 10-inch tablet-sized display in a 4:3 aspect ratio. What’s immediately noticeable is that there’s no halfway mode. Unlike the Galaxy Z Fold series, you can’t leave it partially open to work on a smaller section of the screen. It’s either fully closed or fully unfolded, and that design choice changes the way the phone fits into quick, on-the-go use. If you’re used to quickly peeking at content on a half-opened Fold, that option simply isn’t here.
Physically, the phone is thinner than the renders suggested. Fully closed, it measures 12.9mm thick and weighs 309 grams, which sounds heavy on paper but feels reasonably well balanced in hand. The hinge is one of the most interesting parts: it’s made from titanium reinforced with carbon fiber, rated for up to 500,000 folds. The closing mechanism itself is different from what we’ve seen on Huawei’s tri-fold concepts, and it’s not entirely intuitive. I almost folded it the wrong way on my first attempt, which suggests there’s a learning curve if you’re not familiar with Samsung’s specific folding logic.

The main display is a 10-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and peak brightness of up to 1,600 nits. The outer screen measures 6.5 inches, offers a sharp 422ppi, and is protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. Under the hood, Samsung is going all-in: Snapdragon 8 Elite, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB or 1TB of storage, with no microSD expansion. Software-wise, it runs Android 16 with One UI 8, and supports wireless Samsung DeX out of the box.
Camera hardware is equally ambitious. There’s a 200MP main sensor, a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP ultrawide. On the front, you’ll find two 10MP cameras, one dedicated to the inner display and one for the outer screen. Video recording goes up to 8K, with electronic stabilization available across the board.
Power comes from a 5,600mAh battery, supporting 45W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. Connectivity is fully loaded, with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, UWB, and wireless DeX support.
Samsung is positioning the Galaxy Z Trifold firmly at the top of its lineup. The expected European price is around €2,650, and while availability has been confirmed for Europe, there’s no official word yet on an European launch.
