Huawei may be preparing a more travel-friendly take on its foldable PC concept. A device listed in China’s 3C certification database as model SPN-W52, reportedly codenamed “Semporna,” is believed to be a compact MateBook Fold variant and is listed with support for 66W charging.
The filing does not reveal display sizes, processor details, battery capacity, or a launch date. Still, its appearance in the certification database suggests development is progressing. Current reports indicate a possible release before the end of 2026, but Huawei has not announced the device.
A foldable PC aimed at easier carrying
The appeal of a smaller MateBook Fold would be straightforward: preserve the large-screen workspace that makes foldable PCs interesting while making the hardware less cumbersome to carry. Huawei’s current MateBook Fold uses an 18-inch folding panel and can function as either a laptop or a large tablet; in China, it runs HarmonyOS.
Details surrounding the new model remain largely speculative, but the rumored changes center on portability and durability:
- A dual-folding mechanism.
- A more durable hinge.
- Smaller displays with a wider aspect ratio.
- An external display that could allow certain functions without fully opening the device.
- A newer-generation CPU, larger battery, and more advanced display panel.
A price near 20,000 yuan in China has also been rumored, which would place the compact model below the original MateBook Fold. That figure is not official, and it offers no indication of a U.S. price. U.S. availability is also unconfirmed.
If it reaches production, the smaller MateBook Fold would target users who like the tablet-like canvas of an all-screen foldable PC but need a device designed for more frequent transport. For now, the 3C listing confirms only 66W charging support; the folding design, hardware upgrades, and broader release plans remain unverified.
