An OLED screen is the standout feature of HP’s upcoming OmniBook 5 14, a thin 14-inch laptop that will start at $699.99. The entry configuration pairs an Intel Core 5 315 processor from Intel’s Wildcat Lake family with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, putting the focus on a premium display technology rather than an unusually high base memory or storage tier.
For portable work and school use, the hardware is also notably compact: the OmniBook 5 14 starts at about 2.6 pounds and measures as thin as 11.7 mm. HP says it is slightly lighter and thinner than the MacBook Neo, while offering color choices in silver, pink, blue, and green.
OLED options arrive in stages
Every configuration is set to include an OLED panel, but the standard screen is a practical rather than top-tier implementation. It has a 1,920 × 1,200 resolution in a 16:10 aspect ratio, reaches up to 300 nits of brightness, and does not support touch input.
- Standard OLED display: 1,920 × 1,200 resolution, 16:10 aspect ratio, up to 300 nits, and no touch support.
- Touchscreen version: planned for the October launch window.
- Higher-end OLED display: 2,560 × 1,600 resolution and up to 400 nits, planned for March 2027.
More memory, storage, and practical ports
HP will offer configurations reaching an Intel Core 7 350 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. The 16GB option should be the more suitable choice for heavier multitasking, while the 8GB base model is clearly designed to maintain the lower entry price.
Across the lineup, HP lists a 1080p webcam, dual speakers, HDMI output, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and two USB-C ports rated for transfer speeds up to 10Gbps. HDMI is especially useful for users who regularly connect to an external monitor or presentation display without relying on an adapter.
The OmniBook 5 14 appears aimed at buyers who want an ultraportable Windows laptop with an OLED panel at a lower starting price. Key details still to be confirmed include the full specifications of the touchscreen model and broader availability timing for the delayed higher-resolution display.
