Digitimes Research has some figures related to the global tablet segment, that’s expected to grow in Q2 2014. Apparently, there will be 61.42 million slates shipped globally in the second quarter of the year, a 4.9% increase on quarter and 30.9% increase on year.
The shipments will include 13.5 million iPads and 24.62 million non Apple tablets, as well as 23.3 million white box units, said the same Digitimes study. Apple is expected to be the largest vendor, accounting for 22% of the second quarter shipments, followed by Samsung Electronics at 20% and ASUS at 6.3%. Lenovo will take 6.1% and Acer 1.7%, with Android models getting a total of 58.9% of shipments.
iOS will account for 35.4% and Windows 5.7%. As far as screen size is concerned, 7 inchers will take up 21.7% of shipments, 7.9 inchers 15.4% and 8 to 8.9 inchers 18.4%. 9 to 9.9 inchers will reach 20.7% and finally 10 to 10.9 inchers 21.7%. 11 inch models and above will go to 2.1%. Taiwanese ODMs will ship 20.6 million units in total, reaching a global share of 54% during the quarter.
Foxconn remains the largest maker with 48.6% of shipments, followed be Pegatron, Quanta and Compal.
