GammaTech is a company I haven’t heard of, at least not related to tablets. Well, they have a slate out there, a rugged one that complies with military rugged standards. The device is called Durabook R11 and comes in four configurations.
The product is made to meet military standards MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F and IP65. The slate is aimed at utility workers who perform their activities in harsh environments. All of the 4 configs mentioned above have the same basic hardware features, that include Intel Haswell Core i5 processors and 4 GB of RAM. The storage is available in a 128 GB SSD flavour and we’ve got a capacitive multi touch screen that’s sunlight readable and usable with gloves on.
WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 are here as well, plus a HD webcam at the front and a 5 MP rear cam. The OS is Windows 7 Pro 32 or 64 bit and we’ve got Windows 8 as alternative on some of the versions. The standard config comes with a $2199 price tag and there’s a superior one priced at $2397, with a smart card reader bundled. There’s another unit, that also brings pass through WWAN/GPS support and 4G LTE, at $2699. Finally, a Core i7 model with RF pass through has a price of $2999.
