ASUS is back to its innovative roots and working on an unusual device again. We say “again”, because about 10 or 8 years ago they were making the EEE Slider, the Transformer Pad and other crazy machines. Now they’re working on a Surface Pro-like laptop, that is able to dock with an eGPU for gaming. The source of the leak is Evan Blass himself.
This device is supposed to be the successor to the ROG Flow X13 and Evan revealed the design of the upcoming notebook, which resembles the Surface Pro laptops from Microsoft quite a bit. We’re dealing with a thin and light laptop that’s quite similar to the Surface Pro 8 design-wise. It’s reportedly called ROG Flow Z13, a relative to the ROG Flow X13, which is a convertible laptop that could be connected to an external eGPU from ASUS.
The external GPU is dubbed XG Mobile and could enhance the gaming performance of the thin and convertible notebook. Aside from the gaming, this eGPU also acts like an USB dock, with quite a few ports. This means that the usually slim and light ultrabook may turn into a gaming rig with the proper peripherals attached. ROG Flow Z13 could also support the same thing.
CES 2022 is where the new unit may debut in January 2022. The eGPU is so powerful that it could be used for 3D models and renders.
