We’ve got cheap Android 4.0 tablets, smartablets, phone + tablet combos, but what about gaming tablets? There was a concept shown at CES this year, but we haven’t heard anything since. Now Archos announced that they’re working on a gaming tablet and knowing this French company like I do, it may end up being a cheap product.
In an interview with The New Economist, Archos CEO Henry Crohas unveiled that the company he runs is working on a gaming slate. I’m curios what he means by “tablet type game console”, which is what he said in the interview. Could it be a device with a special gaming control pattern? Something involving physical buttons? Licensed with Xbox or PlayStation technology? If it’s an Android-based model, than PlayStation certification comes easy, while if it’s a Windows 8 device, Xbox Live and its services and games will be available as well.
Or maybe they’ll Archos will launch a service of its own, some controllers to attach to the tablet and you’re all set. Seeing that Sony’s Tablet S and P didn’t excell in the gaming area, the market is ripe for the taking, although the iPad 3 is a pretty solid console replacement…
