We can’t help but wonder if Amazon’s first quad core tablet will also be the first quad core tablet ever… especially so no other device maker has been mentioning plans of this kind. Supposedly, Motorola has something in the works, but will they be ready by October, when Amazon is supposed to debut its products?

The Wall Street Journal has been mentioning this time frame, fitting previous rumors that placed the Amazon slate at battle with a potential future iPad. No exact info on these newcomers has been given, although some leaks talk about a dual ore model with 7 inch display and a quad core unit with 10 inch display and the codename Hollywood.

Amazon’s Hollywood slate will also come with an unique feature: access to the retailer’s streaming video service, a premiere for mobile devices. As far as the chipset choice goes, we will probably see Nvidia’s Tegra aka Kal-El in use on the bigger Amazon tablet. Android is the most likely choice of OS, especially considering that Amazon offers Android apps through its own store.

With the rumors on the iPad 2 HD piling up, it’s logical that the retailer wants to speed things up before a new rival comes out.
