Acer is doing now what RIM should have done a quarter ago, that is reduce tablet sales predictions, seeing that their rivals are doing quite well now. Samsung and ASUS are these rivals and RIM have sold their share of PlayBooks, in the hundreds of thousands actually.
The info about the forecast cut comes from Taiwan Economic News and Acer is anticipating 2.5 million consumer tablets shipped this year, 50% than earlier projections. A while ago the company that made the Iconia Tab was hoping to reach between 5 and 7 million units this year. Acer chairman J. T. Wang says that performance will improved in Q4 when the company’s restructuring will be completed.
Meanwhile, president of Acer Jim Wong justified the prediction lowering through excessive inventory building up at distributors. Strong competition is also blamed and we’re guessing that the mean, ASUS, since they’ve got the most competitive pricing. Oh and the iPad 2 of course…
