If there’s something that can extinguish the Kindle Fire’s… fire, then that’s a potential iPad mini. The device could be launched by Apple sooner than you think and it could be an entry level model that will compete with the Amazon $200 slate.
The info comes from a note to investors that was sent on Wednesday and belonged to Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White. He detailed meetings with technology supply chain companies during recent China trade shows. The majority of companies commented on the weak demand in the industry and that a lower priced iPad could be unveiled in early 2012.
The analyst sees this as an attempt to get the attention of the price sensitive consumer segment. Dubbed the iPad Mini, the newcomer will fight the Kindle Fire maybe with a similar price tag. However, considering how sure some people were about a new 8GB iPhone with low price, this theory could crumble in the same way. The “mini” name could only refer to price and not to size, so we don’t have to imagine a 7 inch iPad here…
