Microsoft held its big Fall event today and during that event they showcased a multitude of products, but the most important of them was definitely the Microsoft Surface Pro 9. This new 2 in 1 tablet comes with a choice of Intel or ARM Chips and a starting price of $1000.
Last year’s model, the Surface Pro 8 brought forth upgrades like the Thunderbolt 4 and 120 Hz screen. This year’s model does a more calculated upgrade, with the typical chip refresh, going with a 12th Gen Intel CPU, but also a 5G capable SQ 3 ARM chip. An SQ chip was also used on the 2020 Surface Pro X, so this is by no means a completely new project. The device will be sold in millimeter wave and sub 6 GHz versions, in the available countries.
Microsoft Surface Pro 9 is very much the same as its predecessor, if you ignore the processor. It brings a 13 inch PixelSense Display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. It also has slim bezels. Microsoft promises an upgrade for the Full HD webcam on board and provides a 4 degree tilt in order to keep the subject centered. The device is available in new colors, like Sapphire, Forest and a Liberty London Special Edition. It also has compatibility with a Surface Keyboard and Slim Pen 2, sold separately.
The Intel version comes with up to 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 1 TB SSD. The ARM version sticks with half the amount, of both RAM and storage. The ARM model also skips two USB-C/ Thunderbolt 4.0 ports, instead replaced by two USB-C 3.2 connectors. On the plus side, the 5G model gets up to 19 hours of battery life.
The Intel version is priced starting at $999 for a Core i5 model with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The ARM 5G one starts at $1300 with similar specs.
