Amazon has a new Fire tablet out, one of the most affordable ones and also bringing the added perk of Alexa on board. The newcomer is part of the Fire HD lineup and it’s a new Fire HD 8 unit, starting at $90.
It also comes with more RAM an storage compared to the predecessor and a lower starting price. Preorders are offered here and the device starts shipping on September 21st. Amazon Fire HD 8 has an 8 inch 1280 x 800 pixel display, with an IPS panel, 1.5 GB of RAM and a 1.3 GHz quad core processor. There’s a microSD card slot in the mix and a battery good enough for 12 hours of video playback, web surfing and music.
$90 brings you the 16 GB model and “special offers”, basically the ads on the lockscreen. The 32 GB model costs $120 and an extra $15 is needed to remove the ads. Stereo speakers are also here, plus a 2 MP back camera, front VGA shooter, Bluetooth and WiFi. Alexa will allow the user to search the web, play music, ask questions and perform a variety of activities.
One can also buy things via voice commands through Alexa. Keep in mind that the assistant isn’t preinstalled on the Fire HD 8, but rather coming with a future software update, to Fire OS 5.4.
