The iPad Air 2 just came to us for testing purposes and we obviously unboxed it for y’all. There was a bit of a shock when seeing how big the device’s box was and how… strangely big the tablet was, after so, so many 7 and 8 inch tablets. This model was announced on October 16th and it’s already here, priced at $499 for the 16 GB version, $599 for the 64 GB version and $699 for the 128 GB one. All of them with WiFi of course…

The slate measures just 6.1 mm in thickness, making it almost the thinnest tablet in the world and it weighs 437 grams. Inside the very tall box you’ll find the manuals, stickers, USB Lightning cable, a pretty big charger and the tablet obviously. Written on the packaging is only “iPad Air”, so there’s no telling what’s inside. The first clue is that the device is very thin and that it comes with a metal ring around the Home button, a dead giveaway for the Touch ID.

The iPad Air 2 brings a Retina Display, a 9.7 incher with a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution and a fully laminated screen by the way. Inside there’s a triple core 1.5 GHz Apple A8X CPU, as well as 2 GB of RAM, the M8 coprocessor and at the back we have an upgraded camera, with an 8 megapixel resolution and two mics close to it. Upfront rests a 1.2 MP camera and this slate also rings WiFi dual channel, Bluetooth 4.0, MIMO and a digital compass.

The battery is a 27.3 Wh unit (Li-Po), that should give you about 10 hours of WiFi browsing. We’ll be back with more details soon, including benchmarks, camera samples and much more!
