Raspberry Pi is probably the most popular DIY mini PC project from the past years and now the same board has generated a tablet. One of the geeks at Make built his dream tablet using the Raspberry Pi and extra bits of hardware.
The builder claims he wanted to build a Linux slate with a touchscreen and a portable package. The final result is a tad bulky, by it does look polished enough to be used in public without getting embarrassing stares. The device uses a 10 inch LCD LVDS bundle with capacitive touch input and an ambient light sensor.
It all runs on a 5 V power source and the slate comes with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and support for only 256 k colors for now. The case you see here was cut from a 1/2 inch sheet of birch plywood and the back is pure carbon fiber with some LEDs being seen close to the side. The finalized product packs a 10,000 mAh battery and offers 6 hours of runtime.
