The PengPod 1040 is an iPad clone that hit the web about a week or so ago and now it’s the topic of news again, simply for being able to run Ubuntu Touch OS. The device is shown with the platform on board in the video below.
This video is basically an invitation to finance the project, the device and the whole Ubuntu Touch development. As you can see, things are a bit laggy right now and the icons seem a bit too big for comfort. Right now the IndieGogo campaign is still open and there are 22 days left in this initiative.
The sum gathered so far is 25k dollars out of the needed 349k dollars. By the way, in case you fancy the PengPod 1040, it measures 9.9 mm in thickness, weighs 635 grams and adopts an aluminum case. There’s a 9.7 inch display on board with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, a microSD card slot and an Allwinner A31 Soc, a quad ore 1 GHz CPU with PowerVR SGX 544 GPU.
There’s a 7000 mAh battery and a HDMI out port on board of this device, in case you’re wondering.
