The tough and rugged tablets are a segment that will never get old, since construction sites and dangerous oil rigs may always require such devices. Panasonic made a name for itself with the ToughBook lineup of such devices and now they’re launching a new model.

This one is called the ToughBook H2 and it doesn’t bring huge changes from its predecessor, other than the expected hardware upgrades. We still get a Windows 7 slate, but this time with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5 3427U processor and a 500 GB HDD instead of the old 320 GB one. Outside we’ve got a polycarbonate encased magnesium alloy chassis with military standards.

This means it can survive 6 feet drops and the roughest weather. The unit is 3.5 pounds and has its battery life pushed to 7 hours. Also, Toughbook H2 offers WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1 + EDR and there’s a bunch of optional gear you can add to it: barcode scanners, smart card readers, Gobi 3G, LTE, GPS and more. The price tag is still hefty, at $3,349.
