HP Slate 7 was certainly a surprise, when it was announced yesterday, as HP’s first Android tablet. We knew they were out of the Windows RT segment and that webOS was dead, now sold to LG, but Android is an interesting move. Today we show you a couple of minutes of hands on fun with the new slate.

The device feels sturdy and it has a soft touch finish, that’s matte and also the back has a very good grip. The Slate 7 is priced at $169 and it comes with 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, a 7 inch 1024 x 600 pixel display and a 3 MP cam at the back, plus a VGA cam upfront. The product will go on sale in April and it will be available in silver or red.

HP Slate 7 feels like a decently made product, nice to hold and it incorporates a stainless steel frame, that makes the thing more solid. You should also know that there’s Beats Audio technology on board just like on HP laptops and ultrabooks. The screen panel here is not an IPS, in case you’re wondering, but it’s a FFS display, with pretty good viewing, as proved by the video.
