Promoted as the “world’s thinnest LTE tablet”, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z was launched globally at MWC 2013, after being unveiled at CES. This is a very slim LTE device, measuring just 6.9 mm in thickness, even slimmer than the iPad Mini or even the iPhone 5.
The tablet weighs less than 500 grams and it’s also the lightest LTE tablet on the market. The good news? Sony ditched the humped design of the Tablet S and Xperia Tablet S and adopted a more normal approach. The device is water resistant and runs on a Qualcomm quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is the OS of choice and we also get a 10.1 inch HD Reality Display on this model. The screen features Mobile Bravia Engine 2 technology and at the back of the slate we find an 8 megapixel camera with Exmor R sensor.
Upfront there’s a 2 megapixel cam and the device features the same OmniBalance design as the Xperia Z smartphone. This product also comes with an IR blaster, a microSD card slot, 2 GB of RAM, NFC and the screen supports a 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution. Sony also promised some nifty accessories for the device, like a sturdy stand and thin covers. The Xperia Tablet Z will cost $500 in the 16 GB version and $600 in the 32 GB one.
