GameStop has just begun taking orders for the Wikipad gaming tablet today, with the product reaching store commercial shelving on October 31st. The product goes for $499 and we’re talking here about a Nvidia Tegra 3 powered slate, the first tablet with an attachable gamepad controller, fitted around it.
The device will be running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and it will come with a 10.1 inch IPS screen with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. What’s really neat it is that the product comes with PlayStation certification from Sony and also support for the Gaikai game streaming services. The tablet also plays games from the Nvidia Tegra Zone and there are already a bunch of partners rallying to support the Wikipad initiative. At the recent GameStop EXPO Rockstar Games’ Max Payne was shown running on the tablet, as well as the famous Shadow Gun.
Wikipad also offers 1GB of RAM, a microSD card slot and can you believe it that originally this was supposed to be a 3D stereoscopic tablet? The folks behind Wikipad have experience with 3D technology and they promised that we’ll see a future iteration of the gaming sate with 3D technology on board.
