A bunch of patents discovered by Patently Apple seem to point towards new technologies that might make it to the next generation iPads and iPhones. One of them is the MagSafe connector tech, that was used on the MacBook laptops ever since 2006 and it has already become a trademark for Apple notebooks. Now, we’re expecting this idea to be incorporated into the iPad.
Instead of using cable and port combinations (male/female) that can wear down during time, Apple’s idea will rely on small magnets that hold the connector into place. The use of magnets might expand not only to MagSafe ports on the iPad and iPhone, but also to a sort of stylus attachment to the Apple slates. The idea is to replace the current 30 pin dock connector and as far as the new stylus goes, this one include coded magnets near the tip of the accessory.
The stylus works like a standard gadget of this type, but its design also involved a dock connected to the iPad, or even iPhone and MacBook, that supports the exchange of data with these devices. Magnets are an extra layer of security according to Apple’s patents, since they’re coded in an unique way, suited for each device in particular.
