Just as expected, Xiaomi unveiled today its latest tablets, the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 and Mi Pad 5 Pro. They cam to life together with the Mi Mix 4 smartphone and these are the first Xiaomi tablets in 3 years. Let’s see what the new lineup has to offer.
There’s a Wi-Fi only Mi Pad 5 and a Mi Pad 5 Pro that has Wi-Fi and 5G versions. The devices have plenty of things in common, starting from the 11 inch screen with a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution, the 120 Hz refresh rate and the panel is a 10 bit one with Dolby Vision and HDR10. It also promises up to 500 nits of brightness and delivers TrueTone technology, which we usually associate with Apple and its products.
TrueTone adapts the colors and brightness to ambient light. In the pill-shaped camera island on the Mi Pad 5 we find a singular 13 megapixel camera, while the Pro also offers an extra 8 MP ultrawide shooter. The Pro model also relies on the more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 CPU, while the regular Mi Pad 5 has a Snapdragon 860.
All these devices come with magnetic keyboard covers and stylus support. The new Xiaomi stylus weighs 12.2 grams and comes with two buttons on the side, while also offering a 240 Hz touch sampling rate. The accessory has its own battery, that can provide 8 hours on a single charge. The magnetic keyboard will come in 3 colors to match the Mi Pad 5.
Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Pro packs an 8600 mAh battery, with 67W fast charging, the fastest any tablet has offered so far. It weighs 515 grams and measures 6.86 mm in thickness. The regular non Pro model has a bigger 8720 mAh battery with slower charging, at 33w. The rumors about the forking of MIUI into a Mi Pad OS weren’t real, but we do get an adaptation of MIUI for slate with multi screen support for over 300 apps.
Mi Pad 5 Pro also brings four Dolby Atmos tuned speakers.
