Toshiba promised a while ago to deliver Android 4.0 to its famous Thrive tablets, the Toshiba Thrive and Thrive 7. They said “sometime this spring”, but they didn’t stay true to their promise, so now the update will get delayed even more. Now the release date is something like fall 2012…

I can’t really see any reason for not offering the update, aside from problems with the compatibility and such things. Some Thrive owners are even worried that they might never see the update in the end. After all, even Sony promised to give Xperia Play users Android 4.0 and then they changed their mind. Right now users of the Toshiba slates have to deal with Android 3.2 Honeycomb and OS that had Android 4.0 as replacement for many months now and soon there will be another release, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, according to rumors.

Luckily, there’s such things are custom ROMs, so you’ll get your share of Ice Cream Sandwich on this device, even without official means. Should we take this as a sign that Toshiba doesn’t care about Android any more and it focuses more on Windows 8 and its first devices to debut this fall?
