After the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 was put up for preorder a couple of days ago, now another interesting tablet model is available as well. I’m talking about the Toshiba Excite 10, a device that’s available for preorder on Amazon starting at $449 for the 16GB version.
Announced last month together with the 7.7 and 13.3 models, the Excite 10 is an enhanced version of the Excite 10 LE, a slate unveiled last year. Toshiba Excite 10 is also available now for $529 in the 32 GB version and reaches $640 in the 64 GB one. All three versions involve Android 4.0 ICS as the OS and an aluminum chassis that has a premium feel to it. The first thing that comes to mind when you think of a metallic case is the problem with GPS and WiFi reception, but hopefully that’s not the case here.
From the official images I can’t seem to spot a custom UI applied on top of Ice Cream Sandwich, which is a good thing, since the stock experience of Android 4.0 is great. If you want hardware features, know that this model comes with 1 GB of RAM, a quad core Tegra 3 processor, a 10.1 inch 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, gyroscope, 5MP camera with autofocus, front 2 MP camera and microHDMI port. You can consider this as a rival for the ASUS Transformer Pad 300, since their specs are basically the same. Which one will you choose?
