People continue to wonder why Samsung and Apple are at each other’s throats in court when they do such a fine job working together. For example, Samsung supplies the flat screens for the US company and from what I’ve heard they also make the chipsets inside the iPads. However, Samsung isn’t the only supplier of screens for the iPad maker, it appears.
Apple is still Samsung’s biggest client, so that’s not to be neglected. Samsung also produces chips for Apple in a factory in Austin, Texas and I’m talking about MAPs – mobile application processors. You must know that Sammy supplied the A4, A5 and A5X chips to Apple for the iPads and iPhone, but when it comes to displays Apple has alternatives. An official from Samsung denied that the company was the only supplier of the Retina Display for the iPad 3.
From what I know LG and Sharp are also part of the supply chain, although I have no idea if they have the ability and technology to make and ship enough units for the New iPad, at Retina Display level I mean. Seeing that Samsung produces such screens, I guess it would be easy for them to produce similar displays or even better ones, since it’s rumored that they’ll launch a 2500 x 1600 slate this year…
