A fresh leak reveals the list of Samsung phones and tablets that will be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo over the next months. It comes courtesy of XDA Developers and we can’t quite confirm 100% all the names on that list, but they sure sound legit. We focused on the tablets of course.
Keep in mind these are devices presumed to receive the update, in light of a recently leaked Oreo beta build for the Note 8 and some XML resources that confirmed some units. The XML files are named after the codenames of the devices, which is a clear sign of what’s coming. Some of these devices are well within the two year software support period promised by Samsung, so the updates were expected.
Others are barely within the limit. Here’s what the list looks like, codenames and all:
- Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 SM-T355 (gt58lte)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0 SM-T380/T385 2017 (gta2s)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 SM-T580 (gtaxl)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 (gtactive2)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab E 8.0 (gtesvelte)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 SM-T825 (gts3)
I see much love for the Galaxy Tab A series and surprisingly no love for the still potent Galaxy Tab S2. Not even Galaxy S8 or Note 8 have Oreo right now, so we’re in for quite the wait. By summertime most of the leaked devices should have the latest Android, give or take one or two. Oreo brings Project Treble, Play Protect, picture in picture, notification badges and snooze, plus a few more basic features. Security updates should be included in their latest version.
