Samsung is scaling up its rugged Android tablet game with the new Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro, a beefed-up version of the compact Tab Active5 launched earlier this year. With a larger display, double the battery, and an emphasis on enterprise flexibility, the Pro is designed for industries where durability and uptime matter more than slim bezels or flashy design.
The most obvious upgrade is the screen: the Tab Active5 Pro stretches out to a 10.1-inch LCD (1920 x 1200, 16:10) with a 120Hz refresh rate and enhanced Touch Sensitivity, so it’s usable even with gloved hands. It’s not just bigger — it’s also brighter at 600 nits, and protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+, a notable step up from the Gorilla Glass 5 on the base model.
Under the hood, Samsung’s using the same Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip found in the XCover7 Pro. Configurations go up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, with microSD support for cards up to 2TB — more than enough for field workers, logistics, and retail use cases.
What really sets the Pro apart is the power system. It packs a massive 10,100mAh battery — double that of the standard model — and it’s hot-swappable, so you can switch batteries without shutting down. There’s also a No Battery Mode, which powers the device directly from a wall or vehicle outlet. That’s ideal for semi-permanent installs, like kiosks, fleet dashboards, or 24/7 workstations.
Charging options include USB-C 3.2 and pogo pins, and yes, Samsung DeX is supported for a full desktop-like experience.
Like its smartphone sibling, the Tab Active5 Pro is IP68 and MIL-STD-810H certified, and the included S Pen is also waterproof. Samsung has also tested it with common disinfectants, making it workplace-safe for healthcare, logistics, and more.
It features both face unlock and a fingerprint scanner, and comes with Samsung’s full suite of enterprise security tools, including Knox Vault.
One standout enterprise feature: its NFC reader works through the display, making it ideal for mobile point-of-sale setups (mPOS). It also has a customizable Active Key, which can be mapped to specific tasks like barcode scanning, app shortcuts, or launching mPOS systems.
Connectivity includes 5G (sub-6GHz, SIM + eSIM), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and even a 3.5mm headphone jack. There are stereo speakers with anti-feedback tuning to ensure clear voice comms in noisy environments.
Pricing and availability
The Galaxy Tab Active5 Pro and XCover7 Pro will launch in select markets this month, with US availability expected in early June. In Europe, pricing is set at €810 for the Tab Active5 Pro (128GB) and €610 for the XCover7 Pro.
Samsung says the demand for rugged mobile tech is growing — projecting the rugged phone market to hit 4.46 million units by 2028, with rugged tablets following close behind.
