We recently informed you that Samsung recently teased a mystery tablet/notebook transforming device running the new version of Microsoft’s operating system. The first picture of the new Windows 8 device was posted on Facebook with the message “Don’t worry, it’s just around the corner”. SamMobile, the usual source for Samsung rumors and news, managed to get a glimpse at a pair of trademarks with the Ativ badge, inconsistent with the Android based Galaxy line-up. The Tab and S naming suggested that the manufacturer is preparing to release a tablet device as well as a smartphone.

As we expected, the new Windows 8 running tablet from Samsung is the ATIV Tab. PocketNow managed to obtain some exclusive info about the device. According to them, it will feature a 10.1″ 1366×768 display in a 8.9mm thick form factor. It’ll be powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU with 2GB of RAM and either 32 or 64GB of storage. It’ll offer WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

On the software side, the Windows RT running device will have included the Office Home and Student 2013 RT suites, featuring the touch-friendly versions of the 2013 suite of Microsoft Office programs. The power needs are covered by a huge 8,200mAh battery and on the front we find the same speaker placement as on the Galaxy Note 10.1. With the IFA Samsung event just minutes away we expect the official announcement and we’ll be sure to keep you informed.
