Xiaomi is readying a compact yet powerful entry in its tablet lineup, and this time it’s coming from the Redmi brand. In a new teaser campaign, the company confirmed the name Redmi K Pad and revealed its striking 8.8-inch display — a bold move that places it directly in competition with Apple’s iPad Mini, but with the aggressive pricing and flagship specs Xiaomi is known for.

The K Pad will feature a high-resolution 3K LCD panel with a smooth 165Hz refresh rate and a 16:10 aspect ratio. That puts it well above Apple’s 60Hz offering in the iPad Mini 6, and potentially even the unannounced Mini 7. While the form factor is slightly larger than other compact tablets, it still falls within the emerging sub-9-inch tablet category — now trending for portability without compromising on performance.

Design-wise, the K Pad retains a clean, modern look with a single rear camera and LED flash, framed by subtle bezels up front. Teasers showcase the tablet in new pastel finishes, including a soft mint green and a lavender purple, hinting at Redmi’s Gen Z appeal. But it’s the internal hardware that’s drawing serious attention: under the hood, the K Pad runs on MediaTek’s top-tier Dimensity 9400+ chipset, paired with up to 16GB of RAM. Early Geekbench scores suggest flagship-level multitasking and gaming chops, and the tablet will ship with Android 15 out of the box.

Charging should be equally fast-paced, with 67W wired fast charging backed by a rumored 7,000mAh+ battery — a massive leap over the iPad Mini’s 5,210mAh cell and 20W charging. Pricing is another key differentiator: where the iPad Mini retails for the equivalent of €479 in China, the Redmi K Pad is expected to come in around €100 less, potentially making it one of the most powerful sub-€400 tablets on the market.

Redmi hasn’t officially confirmed a release date yet, but a June 18 livestream may bring full details — alongside the anticipated launch of the Redmi K80 Ultra. If the specs and price hold, the Redmi K Pad could be one of 2025’s most compelling options in the compact tablet space.
