Trademarks are usually the first way of finding out that a new product or product segment is preparing to come to life. This is why Pantech’s “Fablet” trademark interests us so much, since it can be a hint of what’s coming.

This homophone of the word “phablet” pretty much speaks for itself, so it means the company is up to something new and fresh. Pantech is usually associated with kickass smartphones that sell well in South Korea and have Galaxy S series-like specs. Some of them even reached USA, but Europe hasn’t been so fortunate.

With Samsung’s crazy Galaxy Mega 5.8 and 6.3 inch devices and the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, there’s basically no limit for a phablet’s display. Even Nokia had a 6 inch front panel leak, so 5 inches is so yesterday… Hopefully Pantech can deliver something less of a behemoth and more of a slim device with raw power.
