The Nook Tablet was supposed to be the main rival of the Amazon Kindle Fire, but it failed to get traction, for a very simple reason: it costs $50 more than its rival. That will change soon, through the launch of the 8GB Nook Tablet, that will arrive on February 22nd, probably with a lower price, although that’s yet to be confirmed.

The rest of the specs stay the same and the new storage amount matches the one of the Kindle Fire. Walmart intends to launch the new device at 12:01 AM on Wednesday, February the 22nd. Deliveries of the 8GB tablet should be arriving in stores already. If you’re not familiar with the Nook Tablet, or it hasn’t reached your part of the world yet, know that the original $249 device came with Netflix and Hulu Plus as content providers, a 7 inch touchsccreen with VividView technology, over 2.5 million books and magazines at hand and smooth streaming video.

Apps like Angry Birds, Scrabble, Weather, Drawing, Sudoku, Pandora are also on board, on this slate that uses a dual core CPU and 1GB of RAM. You can read comics on this device, play games and much more, but I really don’t see what differentiates it from the Kindle Fire…
