A few days ago we learned that TCL would bring 5 types of foldables on the market in the near future. They patented some of them and even played with a watch that curves on your wrist. Now they’re back at MWC 2019 with real life versions of the devices, as you can see below.
There’s the standard tablet-type foldable, that reminds me of the Samsung Galaxy Fold and apparently adopts a hinge called “DragonHinge”. There seems to be a quad camera on the outside and the device also brings screens from Huaxing Optoelectronics. There are also left and right folding solutions. The tablet device feels like a Nintendo DS a bit. It’s said to have a 7.2 inch screen with a Quad HD resolution.
Then there’s a wallet style device, that’s infolding and has a more visible hinge, plus 4 cameras of its own. Also, there’s the vertical foldable, with 3 cameras and reminding me of some LG patents and the Moto RAZR 2019 concepts. TCL expects to turn these into real products in 2020, possibly under the Alcatel and BlackBerry brands, which it owns.
I see that the vertical foldable looks a bit like a wallet and leaves a bit of screen outside, probably for notifications and such.
