Motorola has just pulled a RIM on its customers, if we relate to the situation that the Canadian company is going through right now. Moto accidentally sold a couple of refurbished Xoom units filled with the previous owners’ personal data. Imagine if all them started lawsuits… well, that’s not the case just yet.
I’m talking about 100 units here tops, all WiFi versions. If you were one of the guys or gals who returned his/her Xoom to Moto between March and October last year, you might have allowed people to poke around your emails, Facebook messages and more, in case you didn’t have your slate wiped. Honestly speaking, it’s common sense to return a tablet with all the data erased from it. The only problem here is that if you return a bricked Xoom or one that’s simply broken, when it gets fixed it might still keep some of your data.
Right now Motorola’s not even sure why the Xooms were not wiped properly, so how fun is that? They’re trying to get out of the mess by offering two free years of ID fraud monitoring to anyone who returned their Xoom to certain retailers during the time frame mentioned above. Well, let’s look at it from a more romantic point of view: maybe people met their soulmates while checking out their personal data on the just bought refurbished Xooms. Yes, I know this sounds creepy…
