The Xoom tablet pretty much died in early 2012, with the Xyboards, but a resurrection is possible at any time. With Google’s vast resources behind them and a treasure trove of patents, there’s no telling what Moto can do. They may even pull a 3D tablet on us…
A recent patent from Moto hints at such a device, with a 3D display on board. The screen on the slate would be able to “display objects in a stereoscopic manner so that their manipulation is intuitive to a user and they provide a realistic stereoscopic appearance before, during and after manipulation”. Moto’s patents have been published by USPTO today and both were filed back in June 2012.
LG has tried its luck with a 3D display tablet, but that didn’t take off, although they were visionary enough to play with an 8 inch format years ago. There hasn’t been a mainstream tablet since, but what is 3D anyway? The classic stereoscopic experience or maybe a brand new type of 3D that’s more subtle, more efficient and maybe not very battery consuming? Moto knows…
