It’s been a while since Microsoft launched its last Surface tablet, as the Surface Pro 4 debuted in October last year and it didn’t get an upgrade this year. Surface Pro 5 is being kept for a 2017 release and today a bunch of its specs leaked.
Microsoft has yet to confirm that such a product even exists, so we take everything with a grain of salt. The device is expected to come with improved hardware, like the latest gen CPU and a bump in screen resolution. Changes in design are also predicted. Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is said to include an Intel Kaby Lake processor, up to 512 GB of SSD storage, USB Type C connectors and Thunderbolt ports.
There should also be a new Surface Pen, capable of charging wirelessly via a magnetic charging dock, that’s bundled with the tablet. Then there’s a rumor saying that the tablet is going to have its resolution bumped to 4K, which makes sense considering the Kaby Lake chips offer support for such screens. A fingerprint scanner may also come, maybe even embedded in the screen.
Q1 2017 is when the potential release of the product may happen, with the latest flavour of Windows 10. No word on a Surface Book 2 though.
