Gone are the days when Microsoft released software updates for the Surface Pro devices, only to break something within them… hopefully. Now we learn that the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Pro 6 have been updated with fresh firmware and we’ve got changelogs for them below.

The new firmware brings some fixes for the display and system, plus stability and performance. Here’s what you can expect on the Surface Pro 6:

  • Intel Corporation – Display – 24.20.100.6294: Improves system stability and performance.
  • Intel Corporation – Extension – 24.20.100.6293: Improves the stability and performance of the system.
  • Surface – Firmware – 239.2638.257.0: Improves battery stability, fixes CPU throttling at 400MHz and connection failure with the Type Cover.
  • Surface – System – 3.104.139.0: Improves display color.
  • Surface – System – 6.35.139.0: Improves the stability and performance of the system.

Surface Pro 5 also gets its share of the update, but the list is much longer, so there’s probably more to tweak and fix. Stability, positioning and battery seem to be the focus here. Here’s the changelog:

The firmware can be downloaded from here for the Surface Pro 5 and from here for the Surface Pro 6. I should probably mention that the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 with keyboard was discounted recently by $330 and it’s now priced at $990. Expect further cuts as we prepare for a new version, but that may happen either at BUILD 2019 (probably not) or this fall.
