A casual game of pool may be a better fit for a TV remote than most living-room games. LG is bringing Miniclip’s 8 Ball Pool to compatible webOS smart TVs, letting players use the motion-sensing Magic Remote to line up shots, adjust power, and strike the cue ball. The move takes a game with more than 1 billion downloads beyond its usual phone-centric setting and onto the largest screen in the house.
A local multiplayer use for the TV
The webOS version’s distinguishing feature is Couch Play Mode, which supports local one-on-one matches on the same television. That gives the release a clearer living-room purpose than simply running a mobile game on a bigger display: both players can see the table and score while taking turns with the remote.
- Magic Remote motion sensors handle aiming, power adjustment, and shot execution.
- Couch Play Mode enables local 1-vs.-1 matches on a single TV.
- The game will be free to access, with optional in-game purchases.
- LG says exclusive in-game items will be available for its users at launch.
LG says the game will be available through LG Apps and the LG Gaming Portal on LG TVs from 2021 onward running webOS 6.0 or later. The company has not provided an exact release date, describing availability as coming soon.
Part of LG’s broader casual-gaming push
The release adds to LG’s effort to make webOS a destination for quick, controller-free entertainment. LG says its free web game catalog now exceeds 1,000 titles after tripling over the past two years. It also reports that time spent gaming rose 71% year over year in internal data covering June 2025 through June 2026.
LG is also promoting the game’s visual appeal on displays larger than 100 inches, where a virtual pool table can approach real-world scale. Its 2026 QNED evo lineup includes a 115-inch model, though the more practical appeal of 8 Ball Pool may be a fast local match on a webOS TV already in the living room. It appears aimed at households looking for a low-friction social game rather than a console replacement.
