The LG G Pad 8.3 is barely out for a weeks now and getting raving reviews all over the place and folks are already talking about its follow-up. Not only that, but they’re also discussing a brand new octa core CPU from LG.

This week has been busy for chipmakers, with MediaTek launching its 8 core chip and Qualcomm announcing a new Snadpragon with superior GPU. Now LG has taken the scene and announced that it’s testing a mobile chipset codenamed Odin. This one will be available in a quad core and octa core version. The chips will come with Cortex A15 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz, making any Exynos out there pale in comparison.

There will also be a big.LITTLE configuration available with 4 powerful Cortex A15s and 4 Cortex A7s clocked at 1.7 GHz. The GPUs here will be Mali T604/T624 and T720/T760, with the first being said to be clocked at 600 MHz. The quad core Odin is supposed to reach LG Smart TVs, while the octa core one may power the next LG G Pad tablet or maybe a new phablet…

An LG G Pad 2 seems unlikely since LG is doing such a poor job of selling the current G Pad. If they use this in a tablet AT all, it’s more likely to be a future Nexus 8.
