Apple just pushed the iOs 6.0 update hours ago and iPhone/iPad users are already complaining in big numbers about the Apple Maps solution. Turns out that cities are missing, some are blurred out, some museum is in the middle of the river and many other problems. Seems that replacing Google Maps with Apple Maps was a genuine disaster…

Announced in June and the subject of cooperation with Tom Tom, Apple Maps has an interesting flyover 3D mapping feature, that doesn’t look as appealing when it hits the first glitch. TomTom and OpenStreetMap have worked with Apple on this initiative, but it was the Cupertino folks who built the interface. Frustration regarding the app comes especially from international users, while those in US seem to be pretty happy with it. Points of interest are out of date, as BBC reports and some towns are even missing alltogether.

Search results also bring out unwanted results and TomTom already took a stand, saying it’s not their fault, as they just provide data and Apple works with it. The sad thing is that once you get iOS 6.0 you can get Google Maps back, as it’s not available in the Apple App Store. Of course you can access Google Maps from the browser, but another good option is Nokia Maps, launched with a HTML5 option on iOS and Android. The first is accessible at google.com/maps, while the second a m.maps.nokia.com.
