Rumors say that Apple might release iOS version 5.1 with the iPad 3/iPad 2/iPad 2 HD next month, but they didn’t have any solid grounds till now. However this time we got our hands on a solid date, courtesy of the site YourDailyMac. They gathered some evidence, including eleven new profiles for iPhone operators that mention March 9th as the arrival date for iOS 5.1.
Well, it’s all fine and nice, but we have to assume that this is a real image and not something modified, right? We always leave room for speculation, but this is great news, if real, since that means that the iPad 3 will also arrive around the same date. This means that less than a month from now I’ll be analyzing the iPad 3 specs and calling it the Tegra 3 tablet killer…. I can do that now, considering that even the iPad 3 kills the Transformer Prime in some benchmarks.
The profiles mentioned above are meant for operators in Japan, France, Greece, Finland and Sweden, among others and they’re meant to make sure that connectivity is active once the update arrives. iOS 5.1 will be sort of a big deal, since the last update, to iOS 5 came in October, as the iPhone 4S was launched. The new software is rumored to include a 3G toggle, that runs off faster data speeds and conserves battery. Some people say that this update will also bring Siri app interaction, the ability of Siri to take a photo when commanded and to turn connectivity settings on an off. We’ll have to wait and see…
