BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) is an Indian carrier, that has just announced it will launch a tablet PC by June 15th. The news came during a meeting of Telecom Advisory Committee, with BSNL general manager GC Pandey saying that new 2G towers, 3G ones as well and future availability of WiMAX are all in the works right now.

BSNL’s offer includes some very interesting tablets made by Pantel Technologies. I’m talking here about 3 models with 7 or 8 inch resistive screens, Android 2.3 and appealing prices. These tablets come with a promotional offer of 3 months of free data download. The three models are Penta TPAD IS701R, Penta TPAD WS704C and Penta TPAD WS804C, priced at Rs 3250, RS 10,999 and Rs 13,500 respectively. The cheapest is the IS701R model, that features only WiFi, Android 2.3, a 1 GHz processor and 256 MB of DDR2 RAM. This one even has a HDMI port if you can believe it, plus a 7 inch resistive screen with a 800 x 600 pixel resolution.

16:9 aspect ratio, G sensor and a 3000 mAh battery fill in the blanks on the specs list. This model’s battery should provide about 5-5:30 hours of video watching and you also get 2GB of internal memory, plus microSD card slot. There’s a 0.3MP camera upfront and a standard USB port that hosts USB dongles for 3G connectivity.
