Huawei is making an unusually direct pitch to iPhone owners with the Pura X View: try the wide-format phone as a second device, then decide whether it deserves to become the primary one. A phone screen built for more usable space
The Pura X View’s defining feature is its broad display format. Its 6.39-inch screen is said to provide 114.27 cm² of usable area, which Huawei says is larger than the display area of the 6.9-inch iPhone 17 Pro Max. That comparison is driven by the Pura X View’s wider aspect ratio, an approach related to the form factor Huawei introduced with the foldable Pura X.
For portable computing, the appeal of a wider phone is straightforward: more room for reading, messaging, split-screen work, and landscape-oriented apps without moving to a small tablet. Huawei rates the device at a 96.1% screen-to-body ratio, while the handset measures 6.68 mm thick and weighs 201 grams.
The phone uses Huawei’s Kirin 9030S chip and runs HarmonyOS 7. Its rear camera system includes a 200-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 3.7x optical zoom, optical image stabilization, and Pura-series image processing.
Huawei Share is central to the iPhone-owner pitch
Huawei is also addressing a practical obstacle for people already using Apple hardware: moving files between devices. Yu demonstrated Huawei Share transfers between the Pura X View and an iPhone, presenting the feature as a way to exchange files without making file size or internet connection speed the central constraint.
That makes the company’s pitch less about demanding an immediate switch from iOS and more about getting the Pura X View into an iPhone user’s daily device rotation. Huawei is betting that the broader display, HarmonyOS 7 experience, and sharing capability will make a second phone compelling enough to challenge for the lead role.
The Pura X View is clearly designed around a distinct mobile-computing form factor rather than a conventional iPhone-like slab. Whether that is enough to pull Apple users away remains unproven, and availability and pricing for the United States were not provided.
