Huawei has been long at work for the next gen foldable under its wing, the Huawei Mate X2. The device is a foldable smartphone, that can now host and use a stylus, according to the documents. We have details below.

In the meantime, the first Huawei Mate X goes on sale in China next month, according to a mention of the Huawei CEO during the presentation of the Mate 30. LetsGoDigital has found some new patents, that hint at a new experience. There seems to be a special slot here for a stylus, that looks bigger than the Samsung S-Pen. Huawei filed this patent in February 2019 with the USPTO for an “Electronic Device”.

It was also included in the WIPO database today. The documents show a foldable smartphone, similar to the Mate X in some ways. However, this time Huawei fitted a compartment on the underside, in order to store a stylus. That compartment is placed in the side bar, where there’s also the camera and other core components. I can’t say this is a surprise or a premiere, since Huawei Mate 20X already had a stylus.

Interestingly, the Mate X2 has the stylus slot placed where the current phone has its USB port. We can’t say yet if it’s a regular M Pen, or a new variety. We’ve also heard recently that Samsung may can the Galaxy Note series, replacing it with the Galaxy Fold one, which means the Fold may also adopt a stylus. Expect an even higher price for the Mate X2 if it goes this way…

I also expect a better scratch protected screen, the Kirin 990 5G CPU inside, lots of RAM and at least 3 back cameras. The lack of Google apps may also happen.
