HTC may have recently been listed as the number one smartphone maker as far as USA shipped volumes go, but that didn’t stop their October revenues from dropping. The fault here belongs to the iPhone, but that’s not our interest here, instead what we’re interested in is the new tablet they mentioned, according to Reuters.

Everything we know from HTC came from its officials today, including the intentions of reaching emerging markets next year. HTC also claims that it’s open minded about patent purchases, but didn’t mention any plan in that direction. HTC CEO Peter Chou said that the handset maker is still interested in the tablet market in spite of having only launched one model and announced a second (Flyer and Jetstream respectively).

Chou wants to prevent a me-too situation, as he calls it, so that the HTC tablets won’t be seen as “just another iPad rival”. Considering the popularity and hype around its products, the Taiwanese company could easily create a slate that makes a splash on the market, but they have to come up with something unique.
