After finding out all there is to know about the HP Topaz slate, we realized that this is still a codename and not the commercial name of the product, but HP’s latest move could be an indication towards what they’re really preparing. The company recently filed a trademark for names like Touchpad, Touchcanvas, Palmpad, Duopad and Touchslate, so one of them could be used for the Topaz.
Off course, these trademarked names could be kept for later products, like the 7 inch slate Opal or even for smartphones. From what we’ve heard so far, Topaz is a 9.7 inch 1024 x 768 tablet with a front 1.3MP camera and a dual core 1.2GHz CPU, 512MB RAM and a new version of webOS. LTE versions of this device will also follow the original WiFi-only model.
Let’s just hope that webOS has been developed well enough to stand the competition of the iPad and the many Android slates, especially considering the tiny number of apps it has available.
