It’s very rare that you hear about a special offer that involves buying a smartphone and getting a free tablet. I was surprised when in UK you could buy a Nokia Lumia phone and get a free Xbox 360 console, but now there’s another offer that’s also interesting: get a smartphone from Sprint and get a free ZTE Optik tablet.

The offer lasts between August 12th and September 30, so there’s no need to rush, yet. The devices you can buy and get the tablet include the iPhone 4S, that recently got a discount on this carrier, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, now free with a 2 year contract. The thing is that you need a long term commitment, which some people are reluctant to get. The Optik tablet offers a 7 inch touchscreen, Android 3.2 and a 1.2 GHz dual core processor.

The Optik doesn’t have much specs, I have to admit, but it’s still free. It supports a decent 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and also gives the user 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and a 5 megapixel camera to play with. There’s also a 2 megapixel front facing shooter and a 4,000 mAh battery to get the juice from. The only bummer here is the Android 3.2 Honeycomb OS of choice, especially with Android 4.0 ICS out 8 months ago.
